Living in Hooterville, USA I would expect your neck to be strained - not your back.

Decided to go away from the traveler this time around eh?

Re: Eric Kincel Scout on 3/4ton and hummer rims

Here is a couple pix, just got the axle in saturday, the only thing is that the "reverse shackle" causes the leaf springs to not be flat, therefore my pinion angle it way to much(pointed down) so, option are 1- taller "posts" in the front lifting the vehicle more and changing the leaf springs angle. 2-different leaf springs and no reverse shackle :-( 3- pinion angle shims....but those on a front axle??! so any help would be great. i'm not spinning the knuckles.

"Spinning" the knuckles isnt that bad and will produce results that you will be happy with for years to come.Keep the pics coming as you go.Looks good.

Nice work as usual Eric.

I've been working on a new project for the past year and a half. It's a Scout II (1973) with the 3/4-ton axle conversion that I did on my pervious Traveler. So far everything is working perfectly. Much better than my last attempt, which worked just fine.

Here's the Mods so far:
Hydraboost brakes
Front and rear disk brakes
Dana 300, twin stick with 4 to 1 ratio
Detroit locker rear
EZLocker front
ABS front bumper

Mods to go:
IH Customs full cage
Interior
Paint
Custom rear bumper
throw more money at it...

is there a build thread on this one? this is nice, more pics pls!!!

Re: Eric Kincel Scout on 3/4ton and hummer rims

More pictures will come soon enough.

Unfortunately, I throughout my back, working on the rollcage, so the Scout sat ideal for many months.

In the past couple weeks I got the cage built, and now I'm prepping the interior for a new set of "everything".

As mentioned, I'll keep everyone posted on it's status.

Thanks for the interest.

Eric

Here's a couple pictures of my roll cage installation. IH Customs did a great job fabing the components. Highly recommended. Eric

Mark is correct. It's an ARB bumper for a Land Rover Defender 90/110. Thanks for the comments.

How's AZ treating you old man? I'll be down there for a couple months this winter in Prescott.

Glad to see you still enjoying Scouts. I know your a performance guy so I will tell you if you want your Scout to feel and perform better get rid of those boat anchor super swamper SSR's. I had a set on my 2006 Rubicon for 30 minutes and demanded a refund. They felt like lead weights with 2 psi. Put a set of Trxus MT on and it handled like a sports car again.

Nice work! Always good to see nice welds instead of butchered ones. Can't wait to see the finished product. You gonna powder coat it?

Re: Eric Kincel Scout on 3/4ton and hummer rims

Eric,

When you get a chance, can you comment on your method of splitting the cage into 2 parts like that? Occasionally our customers show interest in wanting to remove the cage, or weld it solid outside of the Scout. Nathan thinks it's near impossible to remove the cage once it's completely installed and welded solid, mainly because of those rear plates being so close to the rear corners of the Scout. But still, that looks like a nice method to do most of the welding outside the Scout.

Did you fit and tack weld it completely inside the Scout? Or will you still need to fit the front arms and CB bars when you put it back in. How did that go? Any problems arise? Since you've had it in and out, I'd appreciate any thoughts or ideas you might have about taking the cage out (pre solid weld-up, and after completion).

Re: Eric Kincel Scout on 3/4ton and hummer rims

I think what Carrie is saying is "How come you didn't do pictures and a write up?"

I agree cause you always do cool work. And I have a couple scouts I have to do, my new off roader and Arnies dads 440 Mopar Scout II. I'll be using IH Customs front cage plates but have a bender so I'll be building the rest.

Somewhere on their website had the first one ever made being installed by Nathen on my Scout. The one with Hummer wheels. It was SWEET! But the Scout I had then was a rust bucket.

The front plates as you know bolt through the front body/frame mount. We were looking around and it would be fairly easy to attach the roll bar (B pillar? ) to the frame/body mount. Then the rear body mount would also be easy to plate across the two rear bars and also mount to the frame/body mount. It'll be awile before I do mine and I'll get some pictures but maybe the info will influence your installation.

Re: Eric Kincel Scout on 3/4ton and hummer rims

Mark, thanks for the kind words. It's been an interesting project, that's for sure.

I made the cage in two sections, strictly for ease of welding. I wasn't planning for it to be a two piece design forever (even though that can easily be done).

The method to my madness was to "tack" everything together in advance, then take it out in to main sections. By have the cage out in to main components allows me to make the best weld possible. Also, as soon the main components are welded, I plan on painting them outside of the vehicle. Before reinstallation, I plan to paint and Duraback the interior. Yep, I bought two can of tan Durback, so I'm going to put it on thick.

With the interior done, I'll reinstall the partially painted rollcage, then do the final weld on the mating points and then paint those welds.

Is what I did the best way, I don't know. It just the way it worked for me.

More pictures to come.

Thanks all.

Eric
